Tastes Of Summer

We are almost half way through Spring here in New Zealand and we're finally beginning to feel it in the weather.
Today for the first time this Spring, the girls got into their shorts.  Not for long though.  Laura is looking forward to going barefoot all Summer long.

I love the look of wonderment and concentration on her face.  She is such an enthusiastic gardener.  Its lovely to see.  Laura is planting sunflower seeds for her garden.

We try to eat in season.   Warmer weather has me craving fresh, simple food.  We'll be planting our own tomatoes, red pepeers and cucumbers in the glasshouse during the next few weeks.  Potatoes are waiting to go in, so we'll be eating new potatoes with minted butter on Christmas Day.  A tradition of ours.

For a recent birthday party we ate pavlova.  Heres a recipe.  And with raspberry sauce with ice cream it really does have us dreaming of long, hot, sunny days picking raspberries with friends and returning home ourselves the colour of raspberries.  Roll on Summer.
