Usually in August the sounds of hawks on their mating flights can be heard above our house. This year probably due to the snow it has been more like early September. There is usually 3 of them soaring over the valley in front of our property trying to catch the updrafts. A test of resilience and determination, for who goes the highest wins the mate. Sometimes they soar right over our house so close that we can see the undersides of their wings, similar to the picture below. How magical it is. Their mating cries are a high pitched whistle/cry and we usually hear them before we see them. We know Spring has arrived when we see these majestic creatures grace us with their presence.
